Biography

Alexandra Keller began serving as dean of the college and vice president for campus life in August 2022. Her areas of responsibility include the class deans’ office; the Ada Comstock Scholars Program; the dean of students office, which includes student affairs, student engagement, and residential life; athletics; health and counseling services; the Jandon Center for Community Engagement; and the Lazarus Center for Career Development.

A scholar and historian of film and media, Keller is an experienced academic administrator who has been a professor and chair of film and media studies (joining the faculty at Smith in 2000), a director of the Kahn Institute, and the chair of Faculty Council. She has served on the committees of tenure and promotion, academic priorities, and mission and priorities. Alex also served on the American Studies Executive Committee and the Study of Women and Gender Committee. In 2022, she received the Honored Professor Award for her achievements in teaching and scholarship and her contributions to the academic community. She has a bachelor’s degree in art history from Harvard University and a doctoral degree in cinema studies from New York University.
